# X Auto-DM

> Send an automatic X Direct Message when a reply, like, repost, or inbound DM matches your rule.

# X Auto-DM

X Auto-DM is included with Link and Store. It works through X's official API. Bento never starts a cold DM.

## Set it up

1. Open [X Auto-DM](https://app.bento.surf/automations/twitter).
2. Connect or reconnect X and approve Direct Message access when X asks. Accounts connected before Auto-DM launched need one reconnect.
3. Create a rule: choose replies, likes, reposts, or messages, enter keywords if you want them, and write the private reply.
4. Save the rule and confirm it is enabled.
5. Open **Test rule** and type a sample reply or DM. Bento shows whether the rule matches without contacting X or sending anything. Like and repost rules match every engagement of that type.
6. Run **Preflight** to verify the real X connection before testing with a different account.

For the final live test, use a different X account. Check **Recent replies** for matched, sent, ignored, or failed events. Recipients must be able to receive DMs from your account.

If a creator moves to Free, incoming events are ignored and no automated reply is sent. X app access and Direct Message permission are required before the feature can send.
